The WPA is the global association representing 145 psychiatric societies in 121 countries, and bringing together more than 250,000 psychiatrists. It promotes collaborative work in psychiatry through its 70+ scientific sections, education programs, publications and events.

The World Psychiatric Association is an international umbrella organisation of psychiatric societies.

Originally created to produce world psychiatric congresses, it has evolved to hold regional meetings, to promote professional education and to set ethical, scientific and treatment standards for psychiatry.

The association has helped establish a code of professional ethics for psychiatrists.

The head quarter is located in Geneva.
